Blue green have been the two colours that dominated the Invasion Block with the introduction of Opposition-Static Orb combo. And the engine is used with saproling tokens generation. I, particularly, have a Sap-oppo deck that used Saproling Symbiosis and Aether Mutation. But now, I found there is a new Opposition deck in town: Squirrel-Oppo deck. And I participated a debate over the cards to be in this deck arch type over Mtgnews.com with Area456. And the deck list u saw on the left is a deck list created by Area456 after a thorough discussion between me and him.
For beginning, the mana base is enhanced with the help from BOP and Llanowar Elves, the staple cards that speed up this deck. And 4 Opposition is as good in this deck with the help of 4 Counterspell and 4 Mystic Snakes for defense.
This deck is built as origin to make full use of Parallel Evolution, that doubles the number of creature tokens in play, and Area456 has originally 3 Squirrel Nest and 4 Call of The Herd with 4 Beast Attack. The first two are good choice and I was debating about changing the Beast Attack into Chatter of The Squirrel for speed. What the use of having 4/4 tokens which cost 3 green mana and 2 colorless. I argued that this deck needs to lock the opponent before attacking with tokens and I argued Chatter of The Squirrel serves the duty better than Beast Attack. And after much testing, well, the squirrels are in.
4 Call of The Herd is normal as it ione of the best tokens generator in play now and it provides the deck with speed. And to add UMPH! to the tokens, I suggested the use of 2 Coat of Arms which are originally Mirari because, generally if this deck is able to make up a lock, any number of tokens are enough to seal the game so why the use of Mirari, to double the number of tokens created by Evolution? And this, I believe, Coat of Arms provides power to the generally small squirrels.
In the defense field, 4 Counterspell, equipped with 4 Mystic Snakes are good enough and the sole Spellbane Centaur is just to defend against mirror deck.
basically this deck is quite a well-balanced deck. But one flaw that I can think of is that there is no spells to support the card advantage, making this deck quite slow. I would like to play Brainstorm but well it has bid its goodbye to Type 2 so, I think Obsessive Search and Peek can do the job well.
