It is all about green, the power of nature and animals and plants and stomping and saprolings, and urm.....and ELVES! Since the beginning of Magic The Gathering, green has been a force to reckon with especially when packed with a few mana producing elves and big beefy creatures like Scaled Wurm and Force of Nature.

And in 1996, Tempest came and bring along Overrun, and Urza Destiny then brought us the ultimate Rofellos, and when combined became the greatest mono green creature stompy of all time. Before that, Alliances and Mirage block showed us a good stompy green with cards like the combo, Rogue Elephant and Harvest Wurm and Bounty of The Hunt and River Boa. Then in Masques block, green dies of to give way to Fires and the craziest deck ever, Rebel and Counter-Rebel. Green had become a second choice colour, usually to back up a certain deck like Fires, where Llanowar Elves and Bird of Paradise, accelerate the mana base.

But now, with the coming around of Odyssey, and 7th Edition, mono green has become viable again. Green is the strongest colour in Odyssey as we can see. Green is powered by the favourite Call of The Herd and Beast Attack, 2 cards that indeed powered a few strong decks, especially in the new U/G tempo Opposition deck. With a 1st turn Llanowar Elves, a 2nd turn Call of The Herd spells the early "Oh my God!" to any opponent. And its flashback ability that is payable in turn three gives you two 3/3 tokens. All of sudden, green stompy has make a comeback and in style.

In the common slot, we have 2 bear cards: Wild Mongrel and Werebear. Wild Mongrel is good enough to combo with flashback card like Call of The Herd, and nothing comes close to challenge its place in any mono green deck. Then we have Werebear, the 1G mana producing creature, and can turn into 4/4 creature with its threshold ability and this goes well too with Wild Mongrel ability. That's why I prefer Werebear than Bird of Paradise. Then we also have Chatter of The Squirrel, a card arguably an insertion into the Orbosition, as by turn 2, you can have two 1/1 squirrel tokens. How about Still Life? The GG enchantment that turns into a 4/3 creature is nothing to sneer at too.Enchantment wise, we already have Squirrel Nest, the new squirrel token generator, that powered the new Squirrel-Opposition deck. We also have Muscle Burst, the Kindle-like Giant Growth. In sideboard, we have the strong Spellbane Centaur, to go against any blue-based deck.

I have a sample decklist of Type 2 mono green stompy deck. It is not the best but just a sample for everyone to consider: 4 Llanowar Elves, 4 Werebear, 4 Call of The Herd, 4 Diligent Farmhand, 4 Kavu Titan, 4 Wild Mongrel, 3 Beast Attack, 2 Krosan Beast, 2 Blurred Mongoose, 4 Muscle Growth, 2 Giant Growth and 3 Overrun. Well Green is my favourite colour!
